Campos Racing has announced that Fernando Monje and Hugo Valente will race their SEAT Leon’s in the 2013 World Touring Car Championship.
The team, which was created after SUNRED Engineering and Campos Racing merged are heading into their maiden campaign in the WTCC while both drivers’ have experience of competing in the WTCC.
Monje heads into his first full campaign after a part season in 2012, racing a Tuenti Racing SEAT Leon and secured a brace of top ten finishes during the flyaway part of the season, with his maiden points finish coming at Curitiba.
His WTCC debut came during the second event of the season at Valencia, before he turned his attentions to the European Touring Car Cup, which he secured the title in before rejoining the WTCC.
Monje started off his career in Formula Academy Euro Series back in 2009 alongside three outings in the SEAT Leon Supercopa Spain before moving into the European Formula 3 Open Championship for the 2010 and 2011 campaigns.
Joining the 20yr old Spaniard at Campos Racing is Frenchman Valente. The 20 year old also made his WTCC debut in 2012, as he secured a best result of 16th in the opening race at Shanghai.
Valente started his racing career in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, spending two years in the series before sitting out the 2011 campaign. He returned for the 2012 campaign in the French SEAT Leon Supercopa and he is the reigning Champion of the series.
Monje will complete a full campaign for the team while Valente will join the grid from the fourth weekend of the 2013 WTCC, which will be held at the Hungaroring.
The team also announced that they will enter Igor Skuz and Wolfgang Treml in a brace of SEAT Leon 2.0’s in the European Touring Car Cup, which starts at Monza on the same weekend as the WTCC.
