Münnich Motorsport has confirmed its drivers and livery for the 2013 World Touring Car Championship season, featuring the expected line-up of René Münnich, Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock.
Following Münnich’s exploratory outing at the wheel of a Special Tuning Racing SEAT León in Japan last year, the team have now completed the purchase of three cars for this year’s championship, which have been painted in the team’s colours. The team are expected to take delivery of the cars at the end of January / beginning of February.
Entering under the banner of All-Inkl.com Racing, Münnich’s web hosting business, the Germans will be making the switch from the FIA GT1 World Championship, in which they competed in the 2012 season.
The team recently competed in the Dubai 24 Hour race at the wheel of a SEAT León Supercopa LR, where they finished 46th. Despite this, the team have admitted that their lowly result does not matter to them.
“We had to set up a SEAT León Supercopa LR, which is very similar to a WTCC SEAT,” said Team Manager Marc Basseng from Neusalza-Spremberg. “We have been in Dubai and at the same time used the possibility to get used to the front wheel drive. The entire team, to which we have also added some new contributors, have got on with the new development whilst familiarising themselves in competition conditions and coming together a bit more.
“The result has played no role for us,” addmitted Basseng. “Altogether it was a successful test for the WTCC, in which we were in the pits for four hours due to technical problems. Nevertheless we have learned very much.”
2013 will be the first time that the three drivers will be competing against each other, having previously shared a seat in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. However the team have promised to be prepared and to successfully move on to a new project.
“Indeed we will prepare in the best possible way and have an exprienced team,” said Münnich. “The entry into the WTCC is absolutely the correct step for Münnich Motorsport. We have already attended two races in the WTCC in the previous year to learn the procedures. The whole team is looking forward to the new season with this great challenge.”
