Proteam Motorsport has confirmed that Mehdi Bennani will continue to race one of their BMW 320TC’s in the 2013 World Touring Car Championship.
The Moroccan racer heads into his third campaign with the Italian team and is looking to build upon his best season to date in the World Touring Car Championship, where he finished tenth overall in the drivers’ Championship and seventh in the Yokohama Independents’.
2012 also saw Bennani secure his best result of his WTCC campaign after bringing the #25 car home third in Hungary, while for the team it marked their best result since Javi Villa finished third in Hungary.
“I am very happy to stay with Proteam Racing,” explained Bennani. “I have to thank all my partners that have placed their trust in me once again. I hope that our partnership will produce great results during the 2013 season. Last year we achieved to make the top-ten in the championship, and now our goal is to improve that result.”
The team hope that Bennani can continue his progress from the last three years, as each season he has moved up the Championship standings and has become more consistent.
“We are extremely pleased with this renewal of partnership between our team and Mehdi that lasts since three years,” adds Proteam Motorsport’s Team Principal, Valmiro Presenzini. “Racing in such a top level series as WTCC has made Mehdi grow up considerably. And this was proved by the outstanding results he achieved last year that culminated in his third position at the Hungaroring. We have faith in his abilities and are confident that in 2013 he could fight for the top five places of the Drivers’ Championship.”
