Alex MacDowall heads into the penultimate rounds of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship looking to move into the top three of the Yokohama Independents category.
Suzuka saw the bamboo engineering driver secure his second Independents’ victory of the season at the wheel of his Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T and arriving at the Shanghai International Circuit, the British driver is just six points off Stefano D’Aste, who is currently third in the standings.
“We had a good weekend in Suzuka and I’m confident we can be as competitive again in China”, explains MacDowall, who has secured eight Yokohama Independents’ podium finishes in 2012.
“It’s another new track for me but the Chevy is the best chassis in the championship so I don’t think we should have anything to worry about – and the team is doing a great job.”
With four races of the 2012 campaign remaining, two in China before the series heads to the streets of Macau for the season finale, MacDowall is 41 points behind current point’s leader Norbert Michelisz.
“Realistically, winning the Independents title is out of reach with only four races left, but we’ve still got a chance of trying to finish second and that’s what I’m aiming for,” continues MacDowall. “Since the first win in Austria things have gone really well and we’ve had a good run, so I’m aiming to continue that and hoping to get two more podiums at the weekend.”
