Having claimed his maiden Pole Position in the British Touring Car Championship, Frank Wrathall and the Dynojet team secured their second podium of the season in the first race.
“As a whole it’s been really good: my first pole position, some nice battles up at the front, a second place and three solid races,” explained Wrathall. “I lost some places in the other races as a result of incidents and a couple of technical problems, but it’s been a positive meeting for us.”
The opening race saw Wrathall chase down Jason Plato for the win after recovering from a bad start which saw him drop from 1st to 3rd at the start. He took second from Dave Newsham on lap nine after the Vauxhall driver attempted to take the lead from the MG.
Despite the best efforts of Newsham to take the place back from Wrathall, the Dynojet driver held firm and then pulled away, taking the flag 1.8s behind the race winner.
“We made an incredible effort in qualifying yesterday to get pole,” said Frank. “Our race pace was a big question mark… I made a bad start, and in a way that took the pressure off me because it meant I could gauge exactly what I could do with the car.
“The Avensis felt great all the way through – another fantastic job by the team – and it seems to be getting better and better with each meeting so hopefully I will be on that top step sooner rather than later.”
Wrathall backed up his race one result with a fifth place in the second race and a seventh place finish in the reversed grid race – the results have left the 25 year old eighth in the overall drivers’ standings while fifth in the Independents. Dynojet are seventh in the HiQ teams’ Championship.
