Paul O’Neill will once again replace Tony Hughes in the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis when the British Touring Car Championship heads north to Knockhill over the 25/26 August.
Hughes has prior business commitments which rule him out of the Scottish race weekend and he had no hesitation in inviting O’Neill to replace him in the #50 Avensis for rounds 19, 20 and 21 of the season.
“Paul’s been invaluable during some of our recent tests and knows his way around the Avensis now…” explains Hughes, after the promising showing by the former Vauxhall driver at Croft. “…despite the problems he had over the weekend. Paul’s a great lad and a quick driver”.
Croft saw O’Neill record a best finish of 13th but had the car inside the top tem before accelerator issues hit.
“It was good to get time in the car at Croft” added fans favourite O’Neill. “But since we’ve had a test at Pembrey too, getting the car set up how me and [Speedworks teammate] Adam like it, I think we should be aiming for top ten minimum.
“Knockhill’s been quite favourable in the past for me…” concluded O’Neill, “…so I’m in high spirits and looking forward to it”.
Hughes will return to action at Rockingham, venue for rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the 2012 British Touring Car Championship.
