At the start of the race Collard, who had won the day’s opening race, got off to a strong start whilst team-mate Onslow-Cole was sluggish away from the line. Onslow-Cole had to defend from eventual third-place finisher Gordon Shedden into the first turn, whilst further back Chris James speared into the side of Daniel Welch, forcing both drivers out of the race.
A safety car period followed to clear away the cars of James and Welch and when the race resumed both Collard and Onslow-Cole got off to good restarts. As the race progressed Shedden remained close to the BMW’s but was unable to make a move and the top three result remained the same as in race one.
Speedworks’ Paul O’Neill improved on his sixth in the first race of the day to take fourth in race two, with the third eBay Motors BMW of Nick Foster finishing in fifth to ensure that the WSR team enojyed their best-ever race to-date in the BTCC. Foster’s race was not without incident, however; the WSR driver making contact with Mat Jackson at the hairpin on lap 21 in order to pass the Ford.
Árón Smith finished in sixth for Redstone Racing (Motorbase), ahead of a trio of Honda’s headed by Andrew Jordan in seventh, Matt Neal in eighth and Jeff Smith in ninth. Dave Newsham completed the top ten.
Jason Plato missed out on the top ten and could only manage 11th from 17th on the grid, proving how difficult overtaking is at the twisty 2 km Knockhill circuit.
Mat Jackson had looked set to take a top ten finish and was running in the top ten when he was forced to retire from the race due to damage to the exhaust system on his Ford Focus. The Redstone Racing driver had been forced to open the door of his car along the straights as asphyxiating fumes filled the cockpit of his car.
Round 21 takes place at 17:07 GMT.
