Gordon Shedden has taken his fifth win in seven races by taking victory in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park, with Andrew Jordan once again finishing in second position.

The Honda duo had been in fourth and fifth at the end of the opening lap of the race, with Shedden losing out to Mat Jackson’s Ford at the start. At the front of the field Rob Collard once again got off to a strong start with his rear-wheel drive BMW, and the eBay Motors driver soon found himself defending from Jackson, who worked his way into second early on. However on lap eight the duo made contact exiting the hairpin and both suffered punctures as a result.
The incident ahead promoted Shedden and Jordan into the lead and the pair finished the race comfortably untroubled by the pack behind.
Jason Plato finished in third, despite the MG driver having started from the very back of the field. Plato carved his way through the field and by lap four was in 12th position. Finishing just behind was Daniel Welch, whose fourth placed finish was easily the strongest of his BTCC career to-date. The Proton racer had been running in third after the Collard and Jackson incident earlier in the race, but was ultimately unable to withstand the pressure from a hard-charging Plato.
Matt Neal finished in fifth to ensure he didn’t lose too much ground to championship rivals Shedden and Plato, although he clearly struggled with carrying ballast on his Honda Civic and finished the race 23 seconds off the lead.
Nick Foster finished in sixth, just ahead of Lea Wood and Liam Griffin. For all three drivers the results mark their best of the season so far.
Tom Onslow-Cole and David Newsham completed the top ten, with Onslow-Cole benefiting from securing the reverse-grid pole position for the final race of the day.
After their earlier incident, Collard finished down in 14th place whilst birthday boy Mat Jackson, 31 today, failed to finish the race. Also failing to finish were MG’s Andy Neate and Rob Austin Racing’s Will Bratt who both appear to have suffered mechanical failures early in the race.
Race three takes place at 1716 GMT.
