Darryl O’Young arrives in Austria for rounds 11 and 12 of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship and he is looking to continue his points scoring form around the 4.23km Salzburgring.
The circuit features two long straights with a tight hairpin one end and two fast corners leading into a hairpin the other end. O’Young, like the majority of the field will be learning the Austrian circuit during the two practice sessions.
The Hong Kong driver will compete this weekend with 40kgs ballast on board his #20 Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon, due to the speed of the other SEAT Leon’s over the previous three events.
O’Young will need to work his way round the handicap to continue his points scoring run in Austria and head into the second half of the season with some form behind him. O’Young will be looking to move up the outright drivers’ Championship as he currently is 16th with 11 points.
“It is my first time to the Salzburgring,” explains O’Young, who is currently eighth in the Yokohama Independents’ trophy classification with 24 points. “It’s a very important race for me, as I need to continue the momentum I have carried over the past two race weekends. I am ready for the challenge, as my knowledge of the SEAT 1.6T has grown tremendously. This familiarity I now have with my new car is the main reason behind the improved pace and I look to capitalize on this in Austria.”
