Tiago Monteiro is back out on track this weekend, 5th/6th May for the seventh and eighth rounds of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship which take place at the tight and twisty Hungaroring circuit in Hungary.
The Portuguese racer has experience of the circuit from his days in Formula 1 as well as in the WTCC; he secured a brace of top seven finishes last season.
Arriving in Hungary, Monteiro is hoping to convert his performances from the previous weekends’ into a brace of good results. Having qualified inside the top six last time out at the Slovakia Ring, Monteiro was denied a good result after contact and technical issues forced him out of both races.
“That’s our mission, since we don’t have the new engine we have to work and improve the equipment we have at our disposal,” explains the #18 SEAT Tuenti Racing Team driver. “We crossed a new threshold at the last meeting and that gives me confidence for what comes next.”
The Hungaroring circuit is one which all of the drivers know well and any extra knowledge or experience won’t be of much benefit to Monteiro, but he hopes to qualify well to secure a solid points finish.
“I hope that the experience acquired over all these years will help me qualify because the better placed we are on the starting grid, the more it will be possible to achieve our objective of securing points. Our struggle this season is different from what I have known until now in the championship, but I am not giving up,” concluded Monteiro.
