Audi dominated the session, filling the top seven positions with 20th-placed Rahel Frey the only Audi pilot not to feature inside the top ten. Behind Rockenfeller were Audi team-mates Scheider, Adrien Tambay, Filipe Albuquerque, Mattias Ekström, Edoardo Mortara and Miguel Molina, with 0.360 seconds covering the seven drivers.
Eighth fastest and the top Mercedes-Benz driver was Jamie Green, with fellow Mercedes driver Christian Vietoris in ninth. The top BMW driver was Brazilian Augusto Farfus, who was tenth fastest, 0.503 seconds off the leading pace.
The top 19 drivers were covered by less than a second, suggesting that the grid remains closely matched at the tri-oval eastern Germany circuit. Lap times were significantly faster than those in the first practice session yesterday, with Rockenfeller’s best time 1.766 seconds faster than the quickest driver’s time on Friday.
DTM qualifying takes place this afternoon at 1340 Berlin time.
