Tiago Monteiro heads to Valencia for the second round of the 2012 World Touring car Championship, looking to score his first points of the season after a disappointing weekend last time out at Monza.
Monza saw the Portuguese driver miss out on the top ten after accidents and mechanical issues ruled him out of contention. Arriving at Valencia, he has set his stall out to get his Championship challenge back on track.
He doesn’t yet know whether he will be at the wheel of the new SEAT Sport 1.6litre Turbocharged engine or the 2.0litre turbo diesel engine like he used at Monza.
“The team never misses out on a chance to work and it is still evaluating which will be the best solution from a technical point of view. At any rate, and regardless of the engine we use, the objective is still the same, securing the most possible points in both championships,” explains the SEAT Tuenti Racing Team driver.
He will be looking to replicate his previous success at Valencia, when he secured victory in the second race of the weekend, and he feels that the more technical circuit at Valencia could play to the strengths of the team and the car, compared to Monza.
“I am curious to see how the BMWs and Chevrolets behave on a track like this,” added Monteiro. “It is a circuit where our cars generally adapt well and I hope this will play out in our favour. I can guarantee I will give it my all.”
Eurosport will have coverage of both qualifying and the races from Valencia, with the qualifying session being shown at 4pm on Saturday with rounds three and four live on Sunday at 1.15pm and 4.00pm.
