ROAL Motorsport’s Alberto Cerqui, who makes his début in the World Touring Car Championship this weekend, is hoping to be able to fight for podium finishes at Monza this weekend.
The 19 year old will be at the wheel of a second BMW 320 TC as the team expands to run two carsin the WTCC for the first time since 2009.
Cerqui is keen to make an impression and shake up the order, challenging some of the series ‘older stars’.
“Starting the adventure in the touring world championship in Monza, my home circuit, is something special,” said Cerqui. “This will give me a double advantage: I already know the circuit and I will have the support of thousands of fans on my side.”
Having set promising times in pre-season testing and adapted quickly to new circuits during the 2011 season, Cerqui expects to be able to challenging near the front.
“The team did an excellent preparation work therefore we have all what it takes to start the season on the right foot. Should everything fall in place, we could be realistically aim to the podium but I do not want to hide victory as my ambition. This would be a memorable way to debut.”
