Bamboo engineering have announced that they will return to the FIA World Touring Car Championship with their Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 turbocharged cars, using the exact same specification cars which the full works RML cars will use.
No drivers have yet been announced but Richard Coleman believes that the team will be in a position to announce their driver line-up within the next couple of weeks.
“On the driver front, we’re talking to several top line drivers at the moment and we’ll hopefully be in a position to announce our line up within the next couple of weeks”
The 2012 campaign will be the fourth campaign which the team will use Chevrolet cars – the team made their debut in 2009, running Harry Vaulkhard in a Lacetti in the British Touring Car Championship.
2011 saw the team switch to the Cruze from the second race weekend of the season at Zolder, having started the season with the Lacetti and the best result of the season for the team came at Zolder, where Darryl O’Young finished fourth in the second race.
Coleman added: “We’re delighted to be able to run with exactly the same specification cars as the works RML team this year. The Cruze has been outstandingly successful over the last couple seasons and we’re confident that that will continue in 2012 with these latest updates”
“Last year we took late delivery of our Cruze’s and missed the first two rounds of the championship – running the old Lacetti model – we took delivery only days before the Zolder event where we made an immediate impact. Now we have almost a years experience with the car and with the latest updates we’re confident that we’ll be in contention for the Independents title once again this year”
Monza marks the start of the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship, over the 10/11 March and ends with the traditional finale on the streets of Macau over the 16/18 November.
