Robert Dahlgren has signed for Volvo and Polestar Racing for another four years to contest the TTA Championship, leaving his and the teams’ participation in the FIA World Touring Car Championship in the balance. The team’s plans have yet to be announced, and it is not known if they are to return for another stab at the series and with how many cars.
The 2011 campaign saw Dahlgren and the team show their potential with a number of giant-killing performances, but without success as they failed to secure a top three finish – something which he has achieved thirty nine times with Volvo since 2004, with seventeen victories and three Championship runner-up positions.
His campaign was ended prematurely at Macau after a crash at Paiol in qualifying – which saw him walk away with a broken thumb but he was declared unfit for the final two races of the season.
“I am really glad to extend my contract with Volvo Polestar Racing. I really like it here, the team is really professional and it is going to be exciting to race in the new TTA,” said Dahlgren.
Dahlgren is the third driver to be confirmed by Polestar for the 2012 TTA Championship – after Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Bjork. All of them will be in Volvo S60s.
“We are of course happy to extend the cooperation with Robert. He is an essential part of Volvo’s racing program with Polestar and we are looking forward to new success with him in the TTA,” said Derek Crabb, Executive Director for Motorsport at Volvo Cars.
