Hiroki Yoshimoto will make his World Touring Car Championship début at the WTCC Race of Japan on October 23. The Japanese driver will race a SUNRED León 1.6T for his first touring car race around Suzuka.
“I’m really excited to join such a successful team as SUNRED in such a competitive championship as the WTCC,” said Yoshimoto. “I have to thank my sponsors SDI and Dechau for giving me this opportunity and I will do my best to be up to the task for the races at Suzuka.”
Yoshimoto has previously competed in the GP2 Series in 2005 and 2006, where he finished 15th in the championship in 2006, taking a best result of 3rd in Italy. He moved into the GP2 Asia series in 2008, finishing 10th in the standings.
In 2011 he has been competing in the Japense Super GT series, where he is currently 11th in the standings haven taken a win in the season opener at Okayama.
