Motorbase Performance switches to Fords for 2011

Motorbase Performance will switch to running Ford Focuses in next year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The team will race the Ford Focus models built by Arena Motorsport which raced in the 2009 and 2010 championships under the ‘Team Aon’ banner.

The team will also change its name for the forthcoming season, from Airwaves BMW to Airwaves Racing. It marks the third season of sponsorship from Airwaves, despite the firm’s limited involvement at the start of the 2010 season. The cars will be powered by engine specialists Mountune’s Ford NGTC engine. It means that all entries announced thus far for the 2011 season will be powered by NGTC units.

Speaking about the changes, team principal David Bartrum said: “The 320si is still a race winning car and we’ve been very proud of our association with BMW. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last three years but feel this is an ideal time to move on. This gives us the chance to progress as a team and be involved in the future on-going development of the Focus.”
