British Touring Car Championship bosses have unveiled the first drawings of how the prototype NGTC test car is set to look. The car is being built around a Toyota Avensis bodyshell will make its public debut at Brands Hatch in one months time and is nearing completion.
James Thompson is the official test driver for the new-specification car which will form the basis of the 2011 rules. Thompson will be able to drive the car for the first time in the next two weeks although the car will make its public debut only at the final meeting of the year at Brands Hatch. GPR Motorsport have been tasked with building the car from a bodyshell donated by Toyota UK.
BTCC series boss Alan Gow commented: “These artist’s impressions, rendered from the actual vehicle currently being built, show what a great looking car the new regulations will produce. I’ve no doubt that a lot of people will be very impressed when they see the actual car at Brands Hatch.”
It has yet to be announced whether the car will race at Brands Hatch, although it is confirmed for the two free practice sessions on the Saturday.
The NGTC regulations are intended to cut costs by as much as 50% and will form the future of the BTCC, although S2000 specification machines will still be eligible for 2011. Current BTC-spec cars, such as the Honda Integra, will no longer be allowed to compete from next season onwards.
